England Squad: Raheem Sterling Excluded Once More While Harry Maguire Secures His Spot | Football/Soccer

Must Read

Raheem Sterling has been overlooked by England once again for their upcoming games against Australia and Italy, but Harry Maguire is called upon.

Manchester United centre-half Maguire, who was stripped of the captaincy at Old Trafford ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, is selected once again despite seeing limited game time at club level. While questions can be asked of his claims to a place in Gareth Southgate’s thoughts, Jarrod Bowen has played his way back into favour with a collection of impressive performances at West Ham.

The hard-working winger, who has scored five goals in seven Premier League appearances, is recalled alongside Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins – who has found the target on seven occasions this term in all competitions and has two hat-tricks to his name.

Bukayo Saka is in the Three Lions’ ranks despite picking up a knock in his latest outing for Arsenal. Southgate says the Gunners winger is still being “assessed” ahead of his potential involvement against Australia and Italy. Elsewhere, Trent Alexander-Arnold is selected as a midfielder – having recently filled a hybrid role at Liverpool – and Manchester City defender John Stones returns to the fold.
