Akua Donkor petitions Supreme Court to dismiss NDC’s election suit

Must Read

Flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party, Akua Donkor has filed a petition with the Supreme Court to dismiss any case from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) challenging the 2020 election results.

Donkor argues that the NDC’s claims of election rigging in favor of the NPP and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo are unfounded and should not be heard in court.

Donkor, who placed fifth in the election with 5,577 votes, maintains that the results announced by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs. Jean Mensa, accurately reflect the will of the Ghanaian people.

In her petition, Donkor commends Mensa on a job well done and emphatically states that the NDC is misleading Ghanaians.

The NDC has announced its intention to file a formal petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the election outcome, citing voter fraud and irregularities.

The party also states that it will continue protesting on the streets despite resorting to the court system.

Read Akua Donkor’s full petition below:

“I am writing to express my view on the declaration of the Presidency during the general election.

The main reason for this letter is that the declaration of the Presidency on December 9, 2020, by Mrs. Jean Mensa was accurate. I, Akua Donkor, the flag bearer of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), had already declared Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the winner on December 8, 2020, before Mensa’s announcement to the public.

I therefore appeal to your office to ignore and dismiss the case brought before you by John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, as it is not true that Mrs. Jean Mensa manipulated votes for Akufo-Addo. The NDC is merely deceiving Ghanaians.

I congratulate Mrs. Jean Mensa for her commendable work, and I thank all Ghanaians for their recognition of my position in the 2020 General Election. The televised declaration clearly showed that Akufo-Addo had over 50.1% and Mahama had over 47.1%, indicating the clear winner.

Please find attached a copy of the 2012 Election picture, which clearly shows the declaration made by the Electoral Commissioner, where I agreed to it because it was a clear declaration. This demonstrates that I am a responsible citizen and do not support any conflict regarding this election. I count on your cooperation.

Thank you.
